Welcome to Masculinity Explorations (ME)!
WHO WE ARE
Masculinity Explorations (ME) is an initiative that engages in conversation around masculinity and masculine identities. ME critically analyzes the meaning and practice of masculinity, focusing on its correlations with femininity, societal expectations, and health.
OUR ETHOS
To quote bell hooks: “When men embrace feminist thinking and practice, which emphasizes the value of mutual growth and self-actualization in all relationships, their emotional well-being will be enhanced. A genuine feminist politics always brings us from bondage to freedom, from lovelessness to loving.”
Our ethos in masculinity and across the HRWGC is grounded in women of color feminist theories and lessons, committed to creating spaces of radical community and building feminist futures.
OUR MISSION
-
To provide spaces for people to explore their masculinity unrestricted by stereotypes, unlearn harmful language while normalizing social justice conversations, and to build radical community that acknowledges intersectionality.
-
To dismantle the patriarchy!

Our programs engage people in critical, constructive, and healthy conversations about masculinity. Overarching themes include what masculinity is, how society portrays masculine identity, and how the effects of masculine expression impact everything from our day-to-day lives to our health.
- Masculinity Mondays is a facilitated, open-format discussion group that aims to provide a space for critical examination of masculinity.
- Exploring Masculinity is an annual community dialogue put on with Community Engagement and Leadership.
- Masculinity & Media is an up-and-coming series where we watch films at the intersection of gender & race, followed by a film discussion.
