Beaver Tips: Committee Success
Purpose
Know and understand the purpose of the committee. You can't sell it to others if you don't understand it yourself.
Committee Selection
Select your committee members with care. A diverse group of individuals should be chosen to meet the needs of the committee.
Setting Goals
Have a clear picture of the group's intended outcomes in relation to the event. Create a set of goals you are able to achieve, and the time needed.
Delegating Responsibilities
Assign specific job functions to each member both strategically and efficiently. Each individual wants to feel needed and that they are making a contribution. As a collective, remain orderly and resourceful.
Ideating
Be willing to let go of your favorite ideas in the better interest of group suggestions. Combined ideas of the group are often better than those of any one individual. Be creative and innovative.
Evaluate
Once a task is complete, measure the successes, failures, and improvements.
Support
Share knowledge and information with your members whilst providing honest feedback and encouragement.
Communication
Establish regular meeting times and locations to stay updated with group progress. Also, keep in touch with members outside of meetings for transparency or other needs.
Setting Expectations
Inform members about expectations, duties, and timelines. A strong team spirit is necessary to achieve success as a group. Discuss what it means to work together and how to best do so in order to reach your goals.
